How Rio’s wine bar came about.
What could an Englishman who considers himself a carioca (someone from Rio de Janeiro) possibly miss in the day-to-day of the ‘cidade maravilhosa’? The cold? Certainly not! The pub? Maybe, but there are plenty of pubs here to have a pint for old times’ sake. Her Majesty? No, they’ve never really been that close… So it could only be a wine bar – cozy and informal, the perfect place to meet friends and chat over a glass! With this in mind, one such Englishman paired up with a carioca and the dream of opening a wine bar in Rio started to become a reality: thus, WineHouse was born. Located in Botafogo, the bar offers a variety of wines which compliment the carioca way of life, at affordable prices. No prejudice. No stuffiness. Only great bottles and a welcoming atmosphere, striving to democratise wine consumption! Cheers!
